Sherri Winston, author of President of the Whole Fifth Grade, grew up in a small town on the West Michigan’s shore. She has two brothers and two sisters. As a kid, she spent loads of time in her grandparents’ backyard fantasizing about becoming an author. The yard was encircled in tall
trees and plenty of arbor vitae. On windy afternoons, Winston imagined the swishing tree leaves were speaking, whispering their secrets—secrets she would then turn into stories.
